A local College in Holland, MI was going through a large dorm renovation project. Although the furniture in the dorm was being replaced, it still had many years of useful life. The College recognized this and wanted to partner with an organization that could help them ensure the items would be repurposed. Once they met with The Junkluggers, they knew they had found their perfect partner.
The project involved coordinating the donation of a massive amount of furniture. There were nine "pods" worth of items. Each pod contained a couch, loveseat, arm chair, coffee table, end table, dining table, and six dining chairs. In addition to the pod furniture, there were over 250 mattresses needing a new home. Needless to say, finding a home for all of these items would be challenging.
The Junkluggers were able to leverage their vast network of donation partners to donate ALL of the furniture items, except one arm chair, which had a broken frame. We were also able to cast a wider net and find a good landing spot for nearly all of the mattresses. From local missions, to summer camps, and a Native American Reservation in South Dakota, we found organizations in need of the beds. The mattresses which weren't fit for donation were all recycled in a responsible fashion.
All in all, this was an incredible win for the College, the recipients of the donated items, and the Junkluggers as we lived out our mission to enhance our environment and our community by donating and recycling as much as possible.
